French-speaking students very interested

Thursday, October 17, 2019 marks the presentation of the “British Friendly” device to our students. More than 100 students responded favourably came to the amphitheatre for information. What’s this all about?

Many English-speaking families in St. Paul

Our school complex has been home to families from Anglophony for many years. On the other hand, students are also schooled in our school, for a time, via Rotary clubs (Angoulême, Les eaux Claires) or the SILC. They come from different English-speaking countries. The idea then abounded to allow all of our students to expand their culture. It is also an opportunity for them to progress in the English language.

A “British Friendly” already present in the Settlement Project

In fact, the educational axis of our Settlement Project has two objectives that announce this scheme. The first: “deepening international openness”; the second: “to make the school shine internally and externally” (recognition of the practices and talents of our students and adults…).

Thus, different proposals as well as workshops will be offered to our students thanks to moms of English origin and teachers. The device has several components. We find of course the courses in English from the sixth grade (with awareness and initiation from primary school). With this in mind, a joint project in the fifth and sixth grades: an educational stay in London makes it possible to make the link between primary school and college entry.

It also means a personalised reception of English-speaking families (approximately 50 students) and privileged exchanges with English-speaking countries: England, Wales, Ireland, Australia, Canada, USA.

Finally, this project of course includes workshops led by some of our English-speaking moms. Ms. Jaswinder D., Ms. Anya B-W, Ms. Nicky G., Ms. Victoria B. and Ms. Belinda N. are involved. Of course, teachers are also invested in these workshops. The weekly proposals are varied:

  • English, American and Australian culture
  • Cooking
  • Animation of the festive calendar: Christmas market, English day (school uniforms), …
  • Sport
  • fake-news analysis
  • Etc.

A gateway to certification

Through all these proposals, the mastery of the English language becomes simpler and more natural. All these activities allow a total immersion without leaving the soil of Charentais. In addition, travel reinforces this practice and broadens horizons.

Finally, another advantage of the “British Friendly” and not least: multi-level certification. So the Cambridge English Qualifications for Schools” . These are certifications adapted to students, middle and high school students, and are recognized by the National Education.

No doubt our students are progressing in English in this way! Thank you to the moms and teachers who are part of it.
